Truckers and reckless driving: It remains a problem

On Behalf of | Jan 31, 2019 | Truck Accidents |

As you travel on the many highways throughout the state of Georgia, there’s no way of avoiding commercial trucks. These vehicles are everywhere, so it’s imperative that you understand how to safely share the road.

The problem with this is that some truckers don’t want to do the same. Instead, they drive in a reckless manner, which puts you and many others in an unsafe position.

Here are some of the most common forms of reckless driving among truck drivers:

  • Excessive speeding: This typically equates to driving 25 mph or faster than the speed limit. When a trucker does this, they’ll find it is difficult to control their vehicle and stop it in a timely manner.
  • Illegal passing: Just the same as passenger vehicles, truck drivers must follow a variety of laws when passing others. If a trucker has ever cut you off, you know that illegal passing is a problem.
  • Racing another vehicle: Truck drivers are in a hurry to reach their destination, so it’s not out of the question for them to race a passenger vehicle or truck, such as to stop them from changing lanes in front of them.

All of these forms of reckless driving can cause a truck accident. If you’re involved in an accident with a commercial truck, the chance of serious injury and widespread property damage is great.

Once you call 911 and paramedics arrive to assist you, put your health in the hands of your medical team. From there, as time allows, contact your insurance company and devise a plan for holding the negligent trucker responsible for their poor decision.
