Do you know how to avoid a distracted driver?

On Behalf of | Dec 19, 2018 | Car Accidents |

Since distracted driving has become such a big issue across the country, it’s important to have a clear understanding of how to spot and avoid anyone who is not paying attention to the road.

Here are three tips you can rely on to avoid a distracted driver:

  • Leave more space: When possible, leave extra space between your vehicle and others on the road. If someone is distracted or driving aggressively, pull to safety or move out of the way, so they can pass you.
  • Assume they don’t see you: When a person is distracted, you should never assume that they’re able to see your vehicle. Even if they’ve spotted your vehicle, a lack of attention may result in them losing track of you.
  • Be careful at intersections: This is where many accidents occur with distracted drivers. Since they’re not watching the road, they’re more likely to speed through a stop sign or red light. Slow down and look around as you travel toward an intersection.

Even when you do your best to avoid distracted drivers, there’s no guaranteed way of doing so. These people are everywhere, so you need to take extreme caution.

If a distracted driver strikes your vehicle, move to safety and check yourself for injuries. Forget about the cause of the accident for the meantime, and instead, turn your attention to receiving medical care.

Once you’re stable and able to review the accident, you can better understand the cause. This will lead you to file an insurance claim and take steps to protect your legal rights.
