Alcohol impacts the body in more ways than one

On Behalf of | Oct 19, 2018 | Drunk Driving Accidents |

While there is a big difference between taking a sip of alcohol and downing an entire bottle of wine, nothing changes the fact that consumption impacts the body in many ways. The more you drink the greater chance there is of a serious impact.

Here are five of the most common ways alcohol impacts the body:

  • Decision-making: Alcohol consumption can cloud your judgment, thus making it more difficult to make sound decisions (such as when driving).
  • Confusion: The last thing you need while driving is confusion, as this makes it more difficult to obey the rules of the road.
  • Fatigue: Too much alcohol can lead to fatigue, thus resulting in you falling asleep at the wheel.
  • Aggression: There’s never a good time to be aggressive when driving, but it’s one of the top side effects of alcohol.
  • Changes in coordination: Too much alcohol makes it difficult to carry out normal, everyday tasks.

All of these things are dangerous enough if you aren’t operating a motor vehicle. However, if you’re driving, these issues are magnified and often result in a serious accident.

Even though you may understand the importance of avoiding drinking and driving, you know that it remains a major problem with many people.

Do your best to spot drivers who are under the influence, so that you can keep your distance.

If a drunk driver causes an accident, move your vehicle to safety and make sure the police arrive as soon as possible. After receiving treatment, learn more about your insurance policy and your legal rights for holding the drunk driver responsible for their actions.
